little black jacket is still an essential element in every Chanel

the iconic design is the centrepiece of a new exhibition, launched last
night in Sydney's Walsh Bay.In the darkness of the expansive warehouse,
over 100 mostly black-and-white portraits photographed by Karl
Lagerfeld hang, softly lit by spotlights.
Taken from the Chanel creative's The Little Black Jacket book, each features a celebrity, from Elle Fanning to Sarah Jessica Parker, Charlotte Gainsbourg to Kanye West, all wearing the same black Chanel jacket: a slightly boxy collarless tweed with a single row of silvery buttons."Chanel is full of codes and symbols," explains actress Astrid Berges-Frisbey, one of Lagerfeld's subjects, most famous for her role in Pirates of the Caribbean 4. "Karl [Lagerfeld] designs with this in mind, he¡¯s always surprising us because he reinvents the spirit of Chanel."Also in attendance at the Tokyo and London exhibitions, Berges-Frisbey says this one is very different.
"Each place they adapt the exhibit..Cheap Minnie Girl Costumes. This one is the first where you can see all the pictures together." She adds: "It is quite impressive."In her photograph, she appears as an angelic punk in a Union Jack t-shirt, her jacket tied nonchalantly around her waist. "With the younger generation, they tried to find a new character," she says of her experience shooting with Largerfeld and Roitfeld. "I think with the people who are already very iconic, they kept their own personhood."
