Ra.One disappoints New York

Over bloated, lacking in human  magic and exciting for just about one fourth of its more than two hours run, it crawls for the first 45 minutes, delivers over a dozen lame body jokes, and abounds in miserable stereotypes including Shah Rukh Khan's  ungainly mannerisms as a Tamilian (in the first half). The action picks up just as you start counting how many times Shekhar, the nerdy inventor of a game, has said 'ayyayyo.' Then Ra.One then moves into high action gear for the next hour. The best person to gain from the film directed by Anubhav Sinha with more inane and crude sexual jokes than in any recent Hindi film, is Arjun Rampal . His body language and brooding face creates a quietly menacing villain.

The kid, who argues with his father Shekhar that villains are more enduring and appealing than the virtuous hero, gets one. But in the process the villain Ra.One, who steps into the real world from the game Shekhar had created, kills the inventor.Land Gold Women is worth a watch. He is searching for Lucifer who had defied him in the game world. It does not take him much time to find out the identity of the defiant game player and Ra. One sets out to destroy the challenger.. The boy's persistent belief that his father did not die in a car accident but was killed by Ra.One leads him to defy his mother (Kareena Kapoor ) and bring into their life G.One (Shah Rukh) from the game, who becomes the protector of the family and faces Ra.One in a do or die kind of a climax.

Highly uneven in its script and tone, intermittently exciting and with ill written characters (like one Shahana Goswami , a friend and colleague of Shekhar portrays) Ra.One is one hell of a bumpy ride. But do the onion of the critics matter at all? Given its star cast, fabulous musical score, one stand-out musical staging (Chammak Challo looks fabulous on a big screen), a handful of thrilling chase scenes, and Arjun Rampal's villainy, the movie could do smashing business particularly in India . The younger audiences may particularly cheer the final sequence in which a young kid boosts the morale of G.One (Shah Rukh in a new avatar, dramatically different from the nerdy Shekhar in the first half) against the villain.

Land Gold Women is worth a watch

The literal translation of Zan Zar Zameen  is merely women gold and land. But the emotional connotations of this phrase are many. These are priceless possessions for any man. In today's times is a woman an entity in her own right? Or is she just an 'item' which can be disposed of depending on her man's disposition and his religion?According to debut director Avantika Hari, things haven't really changed for women. And men still prefer to kill the object of their affections if they raise questions about ethics and morality. After Khuda Ke Liye in 2008, here is one more film about Islamic fundamentalists and the staunch ferocity with which they claim to protect their women.

A word of caution; many films on the same theme (Khuda Ke Liye included) despite the grim moments leave the viewer with the fragile hope about the gradual manner in which women have begun to take control of their own lives. Land Gold Women doesn't provide you any hope. Beginning on a note of despair, there is no respite whatsoever. Not a film for the feeble-minded or those looking for Bollywood style 'happy endings'.Nazir Ali Khan (Narinder Samra) is a quiet unassuming professor of history living in UK.Riyaaz plays on his brother's emotions and convinces him about returning home at the earliest, before the corrupt values of the 'whites' destroy both his daughter's morality and the reputation of the extended family.

Having reached a stage in life where not too many unexpected things are likely to happen, Nazir is proud of his daughter Saira (Neelam Parmar), a high school student who hopes to enter Cambridge. Creating the impression of being a liberal, Nazir dithers between allowing his daughter to enter a reputed university, or finding a suitable groom to whom she can be married off. Preferably in India . A fervent hope for most NRIs, not just the fanatics.Life in the Khan household which includes the head-covered docile wife Rizwana (Renu Brindle) and the bordering on adolescence brother Asif (Ali Zahoor) progresses smoothly till Nazir's older brother Riyaaz lands up on a visit.

Don 2, both plastic and explosive

We've come a long way, baby. The first time we met Ethan Hunt in 1996's Mission Impossible, our local movie theatres were playing an Akshay Kumar  actioner in which he mud-wrestled with Rekha  and fought an Undertaker knock-off. Fifteen years on, Tom Cruise  comes to India  to promote Hunt's latest adventure, seven days after which we find Shah Rukh Khan  hanging upside down in a chamber with a pressure-controlled floor -- just like Hunt did in that first Brian De Palma film. And here's the cool thing: Farhan Akhtar  makes it just as slick.

So yes, a very impressively produced film indeed. Akhtar's hero has never looked better -- as evidenced by the lovely girl in the seat next to mine gasping louder and louder -- and, unencumbered by the lack of a classic film to be compared against, both director and actor are visibly liberated, having a blast making this film about a slimy (but shiny) antagonist who wants nothing to do with redemption. And this is vital, for in a film where it's clear that the stakes of the story are lower than the costs of its production, what hooks the audience is the opportunity to see an assured director and a superstar genuinely enjoying themselves -- like Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney  in the Ocean's Eleven series, for example. (By the by, that also happens to be the only other example I can come up with for a remade classic that spawned its own independent franchise.)

Imagine, however, Ocean's Three. Where Clooney was given not just his own lines, but all of Brad's and Matt's and Elliot Gould's, leaving supporting actors to stand and stare while he did his own thing. I'd have to admit that still sounds charming on paper, and this version of it could have been, if only Shah Rukh Khan hadn't also decided to boast about the fact that he has the best lines. There is a degree of over-the-top acting suited to a role and genre like this, but Khan slaughters his lines (and Akhtar's given him some fine, fun ones) by deliberating over each of them and delivering them fatally overbaked, pausing long enough mid-punchline to sneer and smirk, and then waiting after the line to allow us a moment to laugh or whistle. That self-sure smugness asphyxiates the dialogue and robs it and Don, the character, of his coolth. Leaving us with a good-looking caricature of an actor, one that needs now to be reined in.

Lil Wayne Explains Name Of Trukfit Clothing L

We got a peek at Lil Wayne's Trukfit clothing line earlier this week, and on Tuesday night (January 10) Weezy made a surprise appearance at the 2012 Zumiez 100K event in Keystone, Colorado where he gave a full presentation of the new skateboard apparel. Wayne, always one to do it big, took the stage to the soundtrack of "6 Foot 7 Foot" rocking Trukfit apparel. While on stage, Wayne explained the name "Trukfit" telling fans that as a kid he'd grab new gear from the back of a clothing booster truck.Wayne's Trukfit line will be available at Zumiez retailers nationwide.

The first reports on the new apparel collection came in December, when it was announced that the New Orleans native would debut it at the Agenda trade show in NYC."When a person could spot a fake, they'd be like you got on the truck fit," he said, "So now it's cool to have on the truckfit, ya dig!" Before wrapping the night the Young Money rapper was showered in confetti while celebrities like skateboarder Rob Dyrdek hung nearby.

Check out more photos below. The highly anticipated line of uniquely designed apparel was inspired by Lil Wayne's passion for skateboarding and quality street wear," a release from Agenda reads. "Pulling influence from Lil Wayne's distinctive style and voice, Trukfit is made from quality fabrics and features bold graphics at a moderate price point.
